New Jumps for 2010

Water Jump

Construction finally began at the beginning of May when Tim Bennett BE accredited Course Designer and Builder arrived. The site was marked out and digging began. Andrew did an excellent job with the mini digger shaping and levelling the site under Tim's supervision. The liner and hardcore arrived with split second timing with Tim and Andrew working hard to ensure the whole project came together successfully. Mother Nature smiled down on us and the weather stayed fine.

Two days later we were ready for the water. It took most of the day to fill to the required level and a sigh of relief went around the next day when the water was still there - the liner had held. That is the downside to having beautifully free draining land - when you want to retain water you can't! All we need now is a bit of rain so the re-seeding around the banks can take hold. It rides really well as the water depth is 0 - approx 6" with approach possible from all 4 sides so you can choose the depth you enter at.

Drop Fence

Our second new fence for the 2010 season is a drop fence incorporated into the wall linking the 2 fields. It can be ridden from both sides with a choice of 2 levels so come along and have a go.

Cross Country Open Day on Sunday 9 August 2009

We had great weather for our Charity Cross Country Open Day on Sunday 9 August.  We managed to raise £400 for equine welfare charity The Horse Trust. The money raised will be used to fund research into Sweet Itch, a condition that causes extreme discomfort to affected horses, with symptoms including severe itching, hair loss, rashes and weeping sores.

One of the highlights of the day was a demonstration and course walk by Sue Chadwick, an Advanced Eventer who has competed nationally in events such as the Bramham International Horse Trials and the Badminton Horse Trials.

Sue gave an excellent insight talking through the types of fence and how to tackle different approaches to the course.  Her 17 hh Event horse RJ Maxi, flew around the course obviously enjoying the experience. Sue commented ‘all the jumps are well built with the ditch/coffin jump a bonus with multiple combinations so excellent for youngsters and novices.’

Sue will be taking a cross country clinic at Turbury Equine on 5 September (see events page)– a great opportunity to learn how the professionals do it.  All abilities welcome.

The open day also gave people the opportunity to get expert advice on various horse issues, such as horse feed, worming and veterinary care, and to sell their unwanted horse equipment.

Many thanks to all who took part and gave their support.

Phase 1 Cross Country Course – construction completed on target

We started construction, as planned, after 1st cut silage and as the weather was so good we got 1st cut haylage too – a bumper crop. The Cross Country Course is built on approximately 10 acres of gently undulating permanent pasture covering 2 fields. The fences are portable (with a forklift so strong and well built) and can be moved to ensure the take off and landing sites remain in good condition.

The fences are all optional and range from 18" to 3’ 3” high so you can pick and choose your level and pace.  We have grouped the smaller fences in one field and the larger obstacles in another to make training sessions at each level more compact and fluent. Thus giving a productive training experience and most importantly FUN for horse and rider!

Regular Cross Country clinics will be held starting with our Open Day with local Professional Eventing Star Sue Chadwick – see Events page. Bespoke individual training can be organised.

The course will be available for external hire to riding clubs, groups and individuals by the hour with block booking discounts available.

The course includes the following fences: Photos and course plan coming soon!

  • Log Piles
  • Pheasant Feeders
  • Tiger Trap
  • Coffin
  • Tables
  • Barrels
  • Sheep Feeders
  • Tree Trunks
  • Log Rolls
  • Tires
  • Ski Jump
  • Mushrooms

Phase 2 – Future Plans: Farm Ride

As part of our expansion plans to enhance your training experience at Turbury Equine we intend to build a Farm Ride set in 50 acres.  The course will be designed and constructed by a British Eventing accredited team.  We have confirmation that our site, subject to the fences once built, meeting their standards, will be accepted as a member of UK Chasers, giving you the confidence and peace of mind that the course will be of a nationally recognised quality and standard.

The fences will all be optional and range from approximately 18" to 3’ high so you can pick and choose your level and pace.
